Department of Computer Science at University of Copenhagen (DIKU), PLTC section, invites applicants for a PhD candidate or a postdoc in the context of the Horizon Europe project CHORYS focused on Open and Programmable Accelerators for Data-Intensive Applications in the Cloud.
Start date is (expected to be) 1 August 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. Note that a postdoc position is also open. We will hire a postdoc or a PhD, there is only one position.
The project
CHORYS focuses on support for data-intensive applications in the cloud by developing and demonstrating open and programmable accelerators. Through CHORYS, we will demonstrate that European cloud providers and their customers can leverage open accelerators for near-data processing and asynchronous data services to improve the performance, energy-efficiency, and cost of data-intensive applications. University of Copenhagen is coordinating the project and responsible for tasks including RISC-V softcores integration on experimental accelerators, design and implementation of a programmable SSD prototype, and development of a demonstrator leveraging a programmable SSD.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for candidates with a strong systems background and interest in data-intensive systems and cloud-based applications programming. We are looking for candidates for either a postdoc or a PhD position. More specifically, we are looking for candidates that have:
The position is under the supervision of Philippe Bonnet, who is coordinating the CHORYS project. Philippe’s group is focused on hardware-software co-design. The group is a part of Department of Computer Science (DIKU) Faculty of SCIENCE, University of Copenhagen. in the Section for Programming Languages and Theory of Computation (PLTC).

Who are we looking for?
We are looking for candidates with a strong systems background and interest in data-intensive systems and cloud-based applications programming. We are looking for candidates for either a postdoc or a PhD position. More specifically, we are looking for candidates that have:
- Research interest and experience in computer systems, including operating system kernels, compilers and storage.
- Research interest and experience in computer architecture and hardware design
- Experience in FPGA programming and systems programming in (C, C++ or Rust)
