Research Assistant in Societal Security and Resilience
The Department of Social Sciences and Business (ISE), Roskilde University, invites applications for a research assistant for the Centre for Societal Security and Resilience (SECURE), directed by Associate Professor Andreas Hagedorn Krogh and co-directed by Associate Professor Rasmus Dahlberg.
The position as research assistant is limited to a period of 18 months, starting from October 1st, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position
The research assistant will assist the Centre for Societal Security and Resilience (SECURE), directed by Associate Professor Andreas Hagedorn Krogh and co-directed by Associate Professor Rasmus Dahlberg. SECURE is an interdisciplinary research centre focusing on crisis management and emergency preparedness in relation to climate disasters, pandemics, cyberattacks, hybrid warfare, and other complex societal risks and threats. The centre’s research focuses on governance, organization, and leadership across public authorities, private sector actors, and civil society in building resilient societies.
The position offers a unique opportunity to be part of a growing research environment with strong ambitions for international collaboration and external funding. The position is particularly well-suited for candidates considering a future PhD, postdoc, or assistant professorship.
As a research assistant, you will work closely with the Director and the Deputy Director in supporting the development, drafting and revision of scientific papers as well as the development of new research proposals. A key part of the position will be to contribute to the preparation of competitive research applications, including literature reviews, desktop research, and drafting support. In addition, you will contribute to SECURE’s educational and outreach activities. In the fall of 2026, the centre will launch research-based education for practitioners, and you will support the preparation, teaching, and evaluation of the courses in societal security and civil preparedness. You will also assist in the organization of the SECURE webinar series, the production of policy reports and briefs, and stakeholder activities, including seminars and meetings that bridge research and practice.
The ideal candidate has experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research and is familiar with the scientific literature on relevant topics such as societal security, resilience, crisis governance, crisis management, critical infrastructure protection, disaster studies, civil preparedness, or emergency management. The candidate should demonstrate strong analytical and research skills and an ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic research environment. Experience with research support tasks and/or involvement in research projects or applications will be considered an advantage.

Terms of employment
The employment is full-time, 37 hours per week and you will refer to the Head of Department.
The position will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.

- collect, structure, and analyse qualitative and/or quantitative data
- support the development, drafting and revision of scientific papers and research proposals, including background research and documentation
- prepare educational materials and assist during physical and online educational activities
- support the organizations of webinars, policy reports and briefs, stakeholder board meetings, and other outreach activities
- The ideal candidate possesses good communication skills and will be visible and involved in the department’s daily activities, in addition to being willing to engage in disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration across the department.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a master’s degree and/or a PhD degree within a relevant field (e.g., social science, public administration, or security studies). Qualifications within the following areas are required:
- Strong academic writing skills and proficiency in English
- Qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a research team
The ideal candidate demonstrates:
- Experience with conducting systematic literature reviews
- Ability to contribute to the development of research designs
- Experience assisting with and/or contributing to peer-reviewed research publications
- Experience in supporting successful research applications and project development will be considered an advantage. Proficiency in Danish is an advantage but not required.
