Research Assistant of value studies in the entire Realm

Department of Social Sciences and Business (ISE), Roskilde University, invites applications for a position as Research Assistant as a part of the Horizon Europe research project “enhancing the success of enlargement through the political ownership - territorial capital nexus (OWN-EU)” funded by the European Union.

The position as research assistant is limited to 800 hours that can be distributed over 5–7 months in the period from 1 October 2026 to 30 April 2027, depending on the applicant’s preference.

The OWN-EU reframes enlargement strategies and policies for the Eastern Neighbourhood and Western Balkans (ENWB) by coupling lessons from past rounds with a novel analytical lens: the nexus between political ownership (behavioural, administrative and societal commitment to change) and territorial capital (human, institutional, infrastructural, social, environmental and geo-strategic assets).

The Department of Social Sciences and Business
ISE conducts excellent, interdisciplinary, and collaborative research based on anthropology, business studies, development studies, economics, legal studies, political science, and sociology. We offer an innovative and interdisciplinary university environment characterized by academic and methodological diversity in research and education. Our faculty put a strong emphasis on research methodologies and are dedicated to gaining insights into businesses and society in diverse contexts of change and global engagement. We produce research at the highest international level that feeds into our educational programmes, while simultaneously leveraging our research to impact social, economic, and political change. Responsibilities and tasks
The research assistant’s work will include research within the field of conceptual framework and research design development. This includes assisting in developing:
  • A Framework for assessing the political ownership–territorial capital nexus
  • Guidelines for integrating interdisciplinary methods
  • Relevant methods from political science, regional development, sociology, and economics
  • Tools for data triangulation and comparative analysis
  • Literature reviews
  • Provide guidance on combining qualitative and quantitative approaches
  • Develop tools for data triangulation and comparative analysis

Qualifications
Applicants must hold a master’s degree or equivalent within political science/social sciences. Qualifications within the following scientific areas are required:

Experience with interdisciplinary and mixed‑methods research (quantitative + qualitative)

Experience with framework design, data triangulation, and comparative analysis

The ideal candidate should be enterprising, possess good communication skills, be visible and involved in the department’s daily activities, in addition to being willing to engage in disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration across the department.

Assessment
In the assessment of the candidate’s consideration will be given to;
  • Experience with interdisciplinary and mixed‑methods research (quantitative + qualitative)
  • Experience with framework design, data triangulation, and comparative analysis

Terms of employment
The employment is full-time, 37 hours per week and you will refer to the Head of Department

The position will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.
