FU AC-TAP at The Globe Institute, Section for Hologenomics

The Globe Institute at The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen is looking for an FU AC-TAP in the role of data generation and sample coordinator on the B10k project with effect from 1 August 2026. The position is for 30 months.



About us
The Globe Institute’s Center for Evolutionary Hologenomics consists of ca 50 people, whose research integrates aspects of laboratory and computational genomics with microbiomics, in order to answer questions related to both basic and applied biology.



Project description
The B10k project is tasked with producing reference quality genome sequences for as many of the ca. 10,000 avian species as possible. The project is a large international consortium, although coordinated between Copenhagen (Prof Tom Gilbert) and China (Prof Guojie Zhang). As part of this we wish to hire a staff member who will report to Prof Gilbert in Copenhagen, who will be tasked with (i) coordinating the receiving and associated permit paperwork for samples sent to our laboratories from our global collaborators, then (ii) coordinating the extraction of high molecular weight DNA from the tissue samples that we receive, ensure they pass QC, conversion of the DNA into stLFR libraries, and shipping the libraries to the sequencing facility in China.



Tasks
Your task will include

  • Obtaining and archiving relevant paperwork related to the receiving and exportation of the materials
  • Databasing the samples
  • Cataloguing of tissue samples received
  • Extraction of DNA from said samples using a Kingfisher platform
  • Performing QC on extracted DNA using a Fragment Analyzer
  • Construction of BGISeq compatible stLFR libraries


We expect

  • Academic background
  • Knowledge about avian species and the appropriate permits needed to obtain and analyse the samples in Denmark
  • Experience with extracting HMW DNA, as well as performing and interpreting QC on that DNA
  • Demonstrated expertise of organisation and participation in similar projects
  • Familiarity with BGISeq library construction methods, including in particular the stLFR method
  • Prior expertise working within a team while maintaining autonomy
  • Written and spoken fluency in English and Danish


Terms of salary and employment
The employment and salary is made in accordance with the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning academics in the state sector concluded between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

Employment will be as academic research staff. The salary is based on seniority. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible. The working time are 37 hours per week on average. The working hours are flexible.
