Full Professor in Psychology in the Area of Criminology and Violent Extremism
Introduction
The Department of Psychology at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a position as Full Professor in Psychology in the area of Criminology and Violent Extremism. This position is intended to strengthen the department’s research and teaching profile in an area of major societal importance and to link with emerging institutional initiatives such as the Copenhagen Centre for Criminology. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to basic and applied research, teaching, supervision, and academic leadership, while helping to connect the department’s activities to wider societal needs and collaborative research environments across the university and beyond.
We seek excellent candidates with a strong research profile in areas including, but not limited to, criminology, violent extremism, radicalization, and terrorism; the capacity to lead interdisciplinary engagement and collaboration, and; the capacity to deliver high-quality education to diverse groups of students. We welcome applicants working from different methodological traditions, or who are engaged with mixed methods of research, and who can contribute to strengthening collaboration across areas of psychology, across the Faculty of Social Sciences, and across UCPH more widely.
The position also aligns with the Faculty of Social Sciences’ strategic ambition to address major societal challenges through strong interdisciplinary research and teaching. The position is permanent and full-time and is available from 1 November 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The Department
The Department of Psychology is one of the leading psychology departments in Northern Europe and covers a broad range of psychological approaches and disciplines in research and teaching.
The Department has over 100 members of staff, and over 50 PhD students. A total of around 1,500 students are enrolled in the department’s bachelor and master programmers in psychology.
The research of the department is organized in three broad sections with associated post-graduate (PhD) students and postdocs. The sections are “Clinical, Health, and Humanistic Psychology”, “Cognition and Neuropsychology”, and “Social, Cultural, Organisational, Personality and Educational (SCOPE) Psychology”. The hired applicant will be part of the SCOPE section.
Education at the Department is directed towards the psychological profession and is characterized by a high level of critical engagement with theoretical, methodological, and applied contents. Our education also connects to other scientific disciplines, and the department takes part in several interdisciplinary academic programmes.
Research at the Department is of high international and ethical standards and is characterized by a fundamental curiosity to shed light on various phenomena from a psychological perspective. Our research takes advantage of synergistic interactions across basic and applied psychological research and knowledge, as well as of interdisciplinary approaches.

Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities of the post include contributing to the scholarship and intellectual life of the University by conducting world-class research and teaching. A professor also has administrative responsibilities and is expected to develop the field in synergy with other fields as well as to exercise academic leadership.
We expect applicants to conduct and develop their own research in synergy with the ongoing work within the Department, and to contribute to implementing the current departmental strategy and helping to define our ongoing shared goals and aspirations. The successful candidate is expected to reside in the Copenhagen area, as the position involves regular in person engagement at the department and is therefore not intended as a remote position.

Terms of Employment
- Employment with the Faculty of Social Sciences and progression within employment will be determined only by personal merit. We do this by applying academic criteria of the University of Copenhagen which are related to the duties and conditions of each particular post and the needs of the Department concerned.
- The position is permanent, and therefore the appointed professor must have or acquire the proficiency in Danish required to teach and interact with colleagues in that language in 3-6 years. The Department will provide and pay for the necessary language training.

- Terms of appointment and salary is in accordance with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (Akademikerne). The monthly salary is currently DKK 60,354 + 18.07% contribution to the pension scheme. Annual negotiation regarding additional supplements is possible.
